About the Director

David Mesfin is an award-winning Creative Director and Multidisciplinary Designer, originally from Ethiopia. After immigrating to the United States at a young age, he spent his formative years in St. Augustine, Florida, where he immersed himself in the vibrant surf culture, igniting his passion for the ocean and nature. In response to the global movement for racial justice, sparked by the tragic events of 2020, including the murder of George Floyd, Mesfin channeled his creative energy into a positive endeavor. He founded the Wade in the Water project, a full-length feature documentary aimed at uplifting his community. Premiering at the 31st Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival to a sold-out audience, the film has garnered acclaim and continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. Mesfin and the creative team behind Wade in the Water are now seeking a distribution deal to bring the film to a broader audience, furthering its impact and message of hope and empowerment.

Nicole Jordan Oshilaja is an emerging filmmaker based in Atlanta, GA with a focus on elevating underrepresented voices and impacting the Black + Indigenous experience through an equestrian lens. She draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences that inform her work as a creative producer. Her past experiences in the entertainment, corporate, and nonprofit sectors have equipped her with a multifaceted perspective and a deep understanding of storytelling and audience engagement. One major influence on Nicole's work is her cultural heritage and identity as a Black woman. Growing up in a community that celebrated diversity and resilience, she has been inspired by the stories of her ancestors and the struggles they faced. This cultural heritage informs her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the equestrian world through projects like Hooves of Heritage.

Additionally, Nicole's passion for storytelling and visual arts is informed by her exposure to diverse forms of media and artistic expression.
